Symposium on the Status of the Swiss Carbon Cycle

A RICH Symposium on Carbon Stocks and Fluxes in Switzerland
On June 5th, researchers and stakeholders gathered for a national symposium dedicated to carbon stocks, fluxes, and turnover in the context of ongoing climatic and anthropogenic changes in Switzerland. The meeting brought together scientists from academia, governmental institutions, and environmental agencies, along with professionals and stakeholders interested in Switzerland’s carbon dynamics.
Organized under the framework of the SNSF Sinergia project “Radiocarbon Inventories of Switzerland (RICH)”, the event provided a much-needed platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaborative dialogue. Discussions focused on carbon budgets, emissions, and the vulnerability of carbon pools across various ecosystems, land uses, and regions of Switzerland.
The symposium featured a series of invited talks by national and international experts in the field of carbon cycling, offering valuable insights into current research and monitoring strategies. Complementing the lectures, a poster session allowed early-career researchers and project partners to share recent findings and engage with a broad audience. A dedicated discussion forum encouraged lively interaction across disciplines and institutions.
Participants widely praised the organization and scientific value of the event. The outstanding catering and a convivial closing apéro contributed to a pleasant and productive atmosphere, marking a successful end to a day rich in exchange and collaboration.
